Songs of the long walk… “Jesus of the Moon” by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

At least once a week I have a very long walk taking care of one chore or another involving the boys.  Usually these walks seem to land on the grayest and rainiest days of the week.  Wet and cold with too much time to think, I find myself hitting the repeat button on certain songs over and over again.  Each walk seems to find its own theme song.

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had to take one of these walks, but this track has been a recurring theme over the winter.

I stepped out of the St. James hotel
And I left you behind curled up like a child
A change is gonna come
And as the door whispered shut
I walked on down the high-windowed hall

You lay sleeping on the unmade bed
The weatherman on the television in the St. James hotel said
That the rains are gonna come
And I stepped out on the streets
All sparkling clean with the early morning dew

Maybe it was you or maybe it was me?
You came on like a punch in the heart
Lying there with the light on your hair
Like a Jesus of the moon
A Jesus of the planets and the stars

Well, I kept thinking about what the weatherman said
And if the voices of the living can be heard by the dead
Well, the day is gonna come when we find out
And in some kind of way I take a little comfort from that
Now and then

'Cause people often talk about being scared of change
But for me I'm more afraid of things staying the same
'Cause the game is never won
By standing in any one place
For too long

Maybe it was you or maybe it was me?
But there was a chord in you that I could not find to strike
You lying there with all the light in your hair
Like a Jesus of the moon
A Jesus of the planets and the stars

I see the many girls walking down the empty streets
Maybe once or twice one of them smiles at me
You can't blame anyone for saying hello
I say hey
I say hello… I say hello…

Will it be me or will it be you?
One must stay and one must depart
You lying there in the St. James hotel bed
Like a Jesus of the moon
A Jesus of the planets and the stars

I say hello... hello... hello...

'When My Baby Comes' (SixToes Remix) by Grinderman

Video: 'When My Baby Comes' SixToes Remix | Rolling Stone:

Nick Cave declared that his Grinderman project with Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos was over last year, but the band's music lives on in the form of remixes on Grinderman 2 RMX, a set featuring new versions of their songs by UNKLE, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Joshua Homme. This video for SixToes' remix of "When My Baby Comes" sets the creepy, creaky tune to stunningly grotesque stop-motion animation footage.

Reminds me of this O’Death Video:  http://retroviruslab.blogspot.com/2011/10/just-saw-that-these-guys-are-playing.html

What I Am Listening To Now: "The Mercy Seat" by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis

Definately one of my favorite songs ever, ever, ever...  Love the harder versions, but the softer versions tear new holes in my soul every time I listen...  Yes, it is that good.

This is also a nice version.  However, it was recorded off of Japaneese TV and the interview before the song is priceless.

Do I have better things to do with my time than sitting around listening to this song over and over? Maybe. Or maybe nothing in the world is more important than listing to this song over and over every once in a while. We all do what we need to do to get through the day.

First the Rock in Rio feed was down, then my internet was down.  This filled the gap.
